The main venue for the Conference will the Atrium Hotel. The Atrium provides all facilities, including four Conference rooms, indoor heated swimming pool and spa, saunas and half court tennis.
Mandurah City, a comfortable one hour drive from the centre of Perth, is a rapidly developing coastal resort city. Life in Mandurah is centred around the calm, protected waters of the Peel Inlet and Harvey Estuary, making it one of the largest inland waterways in Australia. It also boasts kilometres of sandy Indian Ocean Beaches. The enormous expanses of water are ideal for sailing, fishing, crabbing and prawning.

Climate. It is winter in Mandurah in July. Temperatures of 14o - 16oC can be expected during the day. The evenings will be cool. There is likely to be occasional showers.
Registration Fees. Registration fee includes conference attendance, accommodation, all meals, morning and afternoon teas and includes Conference dinners. A copy of the proceedings will be available at the conference to all financial members of AAABG. To receive the proceedings, non members may join AAABG by indicating on the registration form and including the membership fee with their registration fees. A letter of confirmation will be forwarded to you on receival of your Registration fees.
Refund Policy.
Before 4/6/99: Full amount less $20.
4/6/99 to 18/6/99: 50% refund.
After 18/6/99: No refund.
Social Program. There will be a social function on each evening of the conference. Sunday evening: Welcome Function at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. Monday evening Ordinary General Meeting and Poster Session. Tuesday evening, Conference Dinner at the Atrium.
Accommodation. Rooms have been reserved at the Atrium Hotel, Mandurah and this is included in the price of your Registration Fee. Please indicate your preference for room on your Registration Form.
Transport. Transport has been arranged from Perth Airport to Mandurah for flights arriving on Sunday. Buses will leave the Airport at 1.00pm and 4.30pm. The 1.00pm bus will also pick up from Barrack Street Jetty at 1.30pm and Currie Hall, UWA at 1.45pm.
Accompanying persons (associates) program. Mandurah is only one hour drive from the centre of Perth, however in Mandurah and the surrounding region there are a multitude of unique visitor experiences to choose from. The central attraction of the city are the calm and protected waters of the Peel Inlet and the Harvey Estuary. To meet with other accompanying persons during the conference for organised activities indicate your interest on arrival. Options for daily activities around Mandurah include:
Post Conference Tour 1. The Grange Sheep Tour and Dinner. Departing Mandurah at 2.00pm on Wednesday 7th, it will travel through Perth to the Upper Swan arriving at "The Grange" allowing you to look at the sheep, aviary and wildlife before dinner, sponsored by "The Grange". Buses will take you back to the airport, or surrounding hotels. There will be a small charge to over bus hire.
Post Conference Tour 2. The Great Southern Wool Tour. This follows Tour 1 departing from Perth Thursday morning and finishing at Mount Barker Friday evening. This allows participants to spend the weekend visiting the south west of Western Australia at their own leisure. This tour will be hosted by Woolgrowers in the Kojonup, Katanning and Kendenup areas. Participants will be billeted by local woolgrowers. Participants will be responsible for own transport costs.
Post Conference Tour 3. Margaret River Beef Tour. Departing Mandurah at 2.00pm this tour will visit Cattle properties in the Margaret River region.
Post Conference Tour 4. Sheep Meat Tour. This tour follows on from Tour 1 departing Perth on Thursday morning and returning to Perth on Friday afternoon. The tour includes visits to breeders of South African meat sheep breeds, a sheep dairy and WA Q Lamb PIRD evaluation of maternal breeds.
Pre Conference Course: Quantitative Genetics of new technologies in Animal Breeding. June 28 – July 2. Presented by Brian Kinghorn, Julius van der Werf and Jack Dekkers. Course fee A$400. Accommodation UWA college for about $50 per night (dinner, bed and breakfast).
Post Conference Course: ASREML Workshop. July 8th. Presented by Arthur Gilmore, NSW Agriculture. Course fee A$200. Accommodation UWA college for about $50 per night (dinner, bed and breakfast).
